What a construction fire watch assignment covers in Virginia
What the assignment covers
Coverage for projects where fire protection is incomplete or interrupted while work is under way. Officers walk a route agreed with the site and the fire official, checking work areas after trades leave, temporary heaters and drying equipment, temporary electrical, combustible debris and packaging, storage of flammables, standpipe and extinguisher locations, and that exits and fire lanes stay clear. The local fire official, as the authority having jurisdiction under the Virginia Statewide Fire Prevention Code, sets what the watch must cover and how often rounds occur. NESF does not decide that. Does the fire watch officer also monitor the trades doing welding?
Not automatically. A general construction fire watch covers the building and the route agreed for it.
