Eligibility

Are you 18 years of age or older? *

DCJS will not register a security officer under 18 (6VAC20-174-40(B)(1)). We ask it this way on purpose — we do not ask your date of birth.

Are you legally authorised to work in the United States? *

Everyone hired completes Form I-9 and chooses which documents to present. We will not tell you which documents to bring.
Licensing and training

If the answer to all of these is no, that is fine — most people we hire start here. We will walk you through registration.

Criminal history

You do not have to tell us about anything that has been sealed or expunged. Information concerning an arrest, charge or conviction that has been sealed does not have to be disclosed in this application Va. Code § 19.2-392.15(F), and we may not require you to disclose an expunged arrest, charge, conviction or civil offence Va. Code § 19.2-392.4. Answer as though it never happened.

Other than sealed or expunged matters, have you been convicted of a felony, or of a misdemeanour involving moral turpitude, assault and battery, damage to property, or controlled substances?

We ask because DCJS may deny a registration on those grounds (6VAC20-174-110) and it is better for both of us to know now. A conviction does not automatically disqualify you — the regulation says DCJS may deny, and the Director can grant a waiver for a felony. We consider what it was, when it was, and what it has to do with the post.
Anything else
Including any adjustment you need in order to interview. You do not need to say why.
Certification

By typing your name below you certify that the information in this application is true and complete to the best of your knowledge, and you understand that knowingly giving false information may result in the application being rejected or, if you are already employed, in dismissal.

You also understand that this application is not a contract of employment and does not promise employment for any period, and that employment with NESF, if offered, is at will: either you or NESF may end it at any time, with or without cause and with or without notice, unless there is a written agreement signed by an officer of the company that says otherwise.

Any offer is conditional on your DCJS registration being issued, on completion of the required training, and on the results of a background check.
